Smt. Bhanumathi Narasimhan has been a key person in The Art of Living Foundation since its inception in 1981. The Art of Living Foundation is one of the largest volunteer-based NGOs in the world and one of the most multi-faceted organizations.

Reaching out to thousands in over 140 countries, directing humanitarian projects, teaching meditation and reviving Indian culture and tradition: Bhanumathi Narasimhan’s vision encompasses the whole world, constantly seeking ways to uplift humanity. Born on January 11, 1958 in Papanasam in South India, spirituality and service has been a part of her life since a very tender age. The founder of The Art of Living Foundation, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, her brother and guide, has been a constant source of support and direction for her.
Bhanumathi holds an M.A in Sanskrit but the range of subjects she has studied is as diverse as logic, economics, sociology, psychology, English, Kannada, Hindi literature and Sanskrit philosophy. |

As the Director of Women Empowerment and Child Care programs for The Art of Living Foundation, she has undertaken innumerable projects in the past 25 years. These have given women a new direction and underprivileged children, an opportunity to excel.
Recognizing the need for rural literacy, Bhanumathi has been instrumental in supporting the Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth, a free rural school founded by her brother and nurtured by her father. Now she has taken responsibility for its sustainable growth.
